The 12V Accessory Point could be considered a non essential extra, a standing joke aimed at the MPV brigade. Another gimmick thought up to give us a reason to buy this car over that car.
Warning! Don't be too quick to judge.
One or more 12 Volt power outlets in your vehicle can be both useful and highly desirable.

Many household items can now be purchased in 12 volt versions, albeit aimed originally at the camping and caravan community. Some of these include Coffee makers, Kettles, Baby Bottle warmers all the way to 12 volt Refrigerators and televisions.
These and other items can, and do, add to the pleasure of a day out in the country or an extended European vacation.
The safety aspect is well worth a mention . A tyre inflator will be useful when you realise you have forgotten to inflate your spare to the correct pressure after a blow out. A flashlight can be used as a distress signal, without having to wonder when the AAA batteries are going to die on you.
So don't think of the 12 volt power outlet as a extra cigar lighter for a day at the races, but as an item that will eventually find its way into every family car produced.
