Many cars are now supplied with center arm rests for driver and passenger comfort. It used to be just executive cars but now more and more makes and models are being graced with this feature as standard.
There are many variants in the design of this feature some have basic arm rests which are an arm support above the handbrake. This of course makes for a good fight between the driver and close sitting passenger.

Some have an arm rest per front seat these are more frequent on people carriers and executive cars. These also can indeed be height adjustable for individual comfort.
