High Level Brake Light

Introduced by Volvo in the late eighties it proved so good in helping prevent rear end shunts almost all manufacturers now have this feature as standard.

The high level brake light is a high intensity red light which operates along with the normal braking lights but this one is situated in the middle of the car at the rear and seems to be noticed more by following drivers.

Honda accord high level brake light in rear window. Chrysler rear brake light roof mounted.

There are many forms of the light itself some are roof mounted some boot and some are in the rear window. The normal light is one bulb but some can be multiple bulbs lighting a strip. All of course are effective in their function.

A safety feature which no doubt has saved many lives. Simple is once again effective. As part of the current MOT test and road traffic act if fitted the high level brake light must work.
