Central locking was many years ago an absolute luxury.
Nowadays however most modern cars with any specification have it fitted as standard.
Locking systems vary but most are simply operated by turning the key in the drivers or passengers door which in turn opens all of the other doors and boot.
In addition to the operation from the cars exterior there are now many vehicles which allow the car to be locked from the inside for the occupants security.
These systems usually have automatic opening in the event of a severe impact for safety purposes.
