The first cars to have these that we can think of are obviously Rolls Royce and other expensive marques.
And the Austin Princess Vanden Plas even!!!!! What a classy car.
However many more makes and models have been introduced with them.
Most were originally round holes in the glove box.
People carriers for some reason had them on the seat backs so when the seat is lowered you have a table. Useless as this is if you are able to use the seat this way you would be stationary and if so you would indeed use something else anyway..
Modern cars now have all types of cup holders some are moulded plastics in the floor, or moulded plastics in the centre arm rest area.
And ingeniously they are now popping out of your dashboard with precision.
Very practical tool they are indeed. BUT? When will they be made illegal in the UK it cannot be long before someone is prosecuted for driving down the road reaching for his/her cup of coffee to go from the fast food chain and charged with driving without due care.
