Music maestro!
The radio cassette has been fitted to cars for decades but how have they changed.
Early models were manually adjusting for radio frequency and the tape had to be removed and re inserted the other way around to play the other side.
The modern radio cassette has many features including auto reverse auto tuning, traffic information, sound frequency controls, multi speaker output, pre set memories etc.
Volume output and quality speakers in modern cars make after market stereo's a lot less appealing than previous.
Radio cassette security has always been a problem the more expensive the one you have, the more likely it is that you won't have it long.
In the eighties the stereo's were made with the facility for retracting the whole unit from the car.
Good security but nobody ever did all of the time, and yes it is that one occasion that you don't that someone else does.
Now most radio cassettes are security protected and require a security code to be entered if the stereo is removed from the car or if the battery goes flat.
The code system is generally a poor one as most radios can be de- coded or indeed have their codes read with the suitable equipment.
Other security is to remove the front panel form the stereo itself this is better for security, unfortunately most people do not remove the face and therefore theft is still high.
Car makers are now making the radio cassette specifically for a certain model which is not suitable for any other make of car.
For example the specific radio cassettes can have the display on the dash instead of the stereo itself.
This type does not attract theft so much and it is therefore less likely that your car will be broken into.
